Gary Vitto
Gary Vitto was an executive in the Detroit Tigers
organization, who happen to also be my brother-in-law He lost his Battle
with cancer in December of 2001. Gary was a long time supporter of high
school baseball who was instrumental in helping us secure Tiger Stadium and
Comerica Park for our annual All-Star Game. He loved high school sports,
especially baseball, and the time when my son Dan was playing for Grosse Point
South.
Gary was successful in everything he touched winning several
World Championships in professional Softball for Detroit Caesars as a coach, and
3 Arena Football titles as general manager for the Detroit Drive. He is
also in the USSSA (softball) Hall of Fame. These are just a few of his
accomplishments. His Motivation, work ethic, and people skills
enabled him to be a successful businessman as well.
Gary was passionate about everything he did, but the thing he
enjoyed the most was spending time with family and close friends. He was a
person who always put the needs of others before his own. It is only
fitting that his legacy can be continued in this format, and i know he would be
pleased.
Nominate a deserving athlete who exemplifies Gary's drive and
passion for the game, as well as life itself, and who makes his family, school
and community proud of his accomplishments. I know we have many fine young
men in our state that fit the bill. Give them a chance to win this award.
Sincerely,
Dan Griesbaum
